Lesley and Deborah of Saint De La Mare Ltd were recommended to me by Coolings Garden Centre and from my first meeting with them I was confident that they would design and plan the garden I was hoping for.  I was not disappointed, for now I have a garden which is even more beautiful than I ever dreamt it would be.

My original garden had many problems, including a steep laurel planted bank and conifer hedging along the sides, not to mention a difficult access route up steps from the road, but Lesley and Deborah’s expertise provided landscape contractors who were able to cope with this. All I had to do was supply many cups of tea!

I was hoping to achieve a manageable garden which would provide colour and interest throughout the year. More...

We have no difficulty recommending Saint De La Mare as Landscape Gardeners for any of your domestic projects. Both Lesley and Deborah helped us both with the planning and execution of the landscape works for our new house in Cudham. Although the full scheme is yet to be realised, we found their dedication in advising both the selection of the plants and general arrangement of the external works around the house second to none. They also undertook the planting of several beds in helping us prepare for our daughter’s wedding which was held on the property.

Their enthusiasm and dedication was at the forefront of their services which greatly assisted us over the extended period it took to complete the house. In addition to their horticultural skills they were able to introduce us to a number of sub-contractors and contacts who undertook the works.

We would not hesitate in recommending them to future clients.

From the outset, Lesley and Deborah were highly professional, efficient and an absolute joy to work with. We approached them with very little idea about what to do with the small patch of wasteland that was our SW London garden, but they listened to our vague thoughts and put together a highly original and creative garden design that fell well within our budget. When we had agreed to go ahead with the project, they worked quickly and kept us informed with daily progress reports. The end result was even better than we could have imagined: not only have they made a small space seem far bigger, they have given us the low-maintenance, user-friendly (and very attractive) garden that we hoped for.

Their aftercare service has also been fantastic, providing advice on upkeep and revisiting the site to check how the plants have bedded in.

Yours Faithfully

We had been considering a major garden overhaul for some time - the garden was previously targeted at boys and football, and had a couple of small flower beds but was essentially laid to grass. We had a designer in whose ideas and pricing was not even vaguely in line with our thinking, but luckily a visit to Coolings resulted in a recommendation to try Saint De La Mare.

We had a few ideas - all year colour, a summer house with patio, possibly building on the design theme of the existing patio, which we had built 15 years before, much less grass !  More...

We were introduced to Lesley and Deborah  by the Area Coordinator of the National Garden Scheme.

We had a mature, well-stocked garden which we wished to improve with a wider variety of shrubs and plants and a better planting scheme to create interest in every season.

Following detailed discussions with us, identifying our tastes and ambitions, Lesley and Deborah produced detailed plans for each bed in our garden and introduced a new bed which gave us scope for creativity.  In particular they encouraged us to have a variety of grasses, with which we are delighted since they complement the more traditional planting.  More ...

Rosalind and Graham Upton,  Sanderstead (2023)

We knew our 100 ft garden needed attention as a couple of years ago we lost two apple trees and a weeping willow due to honey fungus.

Deborah and Lesley visited and gave us their thoughts and ideas.  Due to the gradual garden incline 13 steps had to be incorporated.  A very attractive detailed plan with exact planting and species information was produced. Every plant and tree had photographs as well as their characteristics.

The work was carried out last summer and we are now delighted with the endless surprises and colour the garden is producing. The plants they provided are resilient and of a very good quality.

The choice of the turf laid was excellent.  When cut the lawn looks too good to walk on!

The circular lawns make the garden look interesting.

Visitors are full of compliments and most pleasantly surprised by the transformation.  We highly recommend Saint De La Mare.

After a visit to Coolings garden centre I booked an initial consultation with Saint De La Mare and Lesley and Deborah arranged to come and visit the garden.  They were enthusiastic and full of ideas for planting around the garden; they noted what was already planted and the numerous plants and trees I had already purchased waiting for planting.  They gave advice on planting ideas to provide colour through the seasons and  to link planting around the garden.  More...
