Shortlands, Kent

Our clients were busy modernising their house and decided that the garden would also benefit from an update as they overlooked it from the kitchen.

Overgrown and a bit tired, we were asked to redesign the garden bearing in mind that year round interest was needed as well as low maintenance.

The garden sloped from the top to the bottom and had narrow broken pathways. We needed to leave room for occasional garden parties and for grandchildren to play.

The garden was stripped back apart from a beautiful Acer, existing fruit trees and some mature shrubs which were reused. Our design incorporated three circular lawns and an enlarged pond with a much loved water feature. Fencing and existing sheds were painted to match and a raised sleeper bed for growing vegetables was added.

TAG Horticulture prepared the garden for us, and laid the sandstone paving which now takes you slowly and gently to the top of the garden. Lots of oganic matter was introduced and new Acers and fan trained fruit have been included along with long flowering shrubs, roses and perennials. Bulbs will extend the season from March to July adding extra splashes of colour. Lighting and irrigation have been installed and after only two months the garden is settled and already full of colour and butterflies.
