Our clients were busy modernising their house after many years and decided that the garden would also benefit from a complete update. This family garden was very overgrown and looking tired. The garden sloped down from the top towards the house and had narrow broken path and a small congested pond.
We were asked to re-design the garden to ensure year-round-interest, as well as low maintenance and colourful planting. We needed to leave room for occasional garden parties and for their grandchildren to play.
The garden was stripped back to a blank canvas apart, all from a beautiful Acer and some existing fruit trees and mature shrubs. Our design included three circular lawn areas and an enlarged circular pond to include a much loved water feature. We re-used the existing archway which is now planted with Clematis. The fencing and existing sheds were painted to all match and a raised sleeper bed for growing vegetables was incorporated.
TAG Horticulture did all the hard landscaping and planting preparation for us. A new sandstone path now takes you slowly and gently up to the top of the garden. Plenty of organic matter was introduced to the borders and new Acers and fan trained fruit were planted, along with long flowering shrubs, roses and hardy perennials. Bulbs have been planted, which will begin flowering early in the season through until July. Lighting and irrigation have also been installed.
After only two months, the garden settled nicely and was already full of colour and butterflies. We look forward to seeing how the garden develops.
